Vessi Pacific Sneaker Review: My Real-World Experience

I’ve had the pleasure of testing the Vessi Women’s Pacific Sneaker – the brand’s latest waterproof sneaker. Full disclosure – the company sent me a pair to try. After testing these sneakers in my daily routine, gym sessions and just casual walking around, this article is an honest review of my experience.

What Are Vessi Pacific Sneakers?

The Vessi Pacific Sneaker is the brand’s stylish, slip-on approach to waterproof footwear. 

The Pacific Sneaker is built with Vessi’s patented Dyma-tex® technology, which uses thousands of nano-sized pores to keep water out while allowing heat and sweat to escape these shoes promise.

Vessi promises that these shoes offer 100% waterproof protection, while still being breathable.

Pacific Sneaker Pros and Cons:

Pros:

• Waterproof Knit Upper: The shoe uses Vessi’s signature Dyma-tex® waterproof knit material, which is woven directly into the fabric rather than applied as a coating. Dyma-tex® is a vegan synthetic material provides a flexible, waterproof barrier.
• High Traction Sole: The outsole is made with a rubber herringbone pattern for extra traction. 
• Deep Cushion: The midsole gives you substantial cushioning, with 2-inch sole under the heel, 1.5-inch arch support and 1inch of sole under the toe box.
• Easy Slip-On: The Pacific Sneakers have a slip-on design with elastic ankle collars.
• Light Weight: The Pacific Sneakers weigh approximately 10-11 ounces per shoe.
• Wide Toe Box: 6-inch toe box gives your toes space to move.

Cons:

• Removable Insole: While the Pacific Sneaker gives you extra comfort with a removable insole, I find that one of the soles can sometimes slip out of place and move around.
• Looser Fit: The sneakers’ laces are mostly decorative and don’t allow for much tightening.

My Real-World Experience

Comfort and Fit

• Natural Toe Movement: Despite having a hammer toe, the Pacific Sneakers gives me enough space for natural toe movement.
• Impact Absorption: The well-cushioned outsole is great for workouts like jogging, jump roping, weight lifting and gives you excellent impact absorption. I experienced zero knee or back pain during and after gym sessions.
• Stability Issues: Here’s the main drawback. Since the laces are mostly decorative, you can’t adjust the tightness of the ankle area. While the shoes fit snugly, you may notice this aspect impacts stability during lateral movements.

Design and Aesthetics

• I chose the all-black colorway because they have a more sleek look compared to the white or beige.
• While the shoes have a thicker sole, the dark color reduces the bulkiness.

Water Resistance

• The Vessi Pacific’s Dyma-tex® fabric repels water to keep your feet dry during light rain and puddle encounters. 
• However, like all waterproof shoes, protection is limited to the height of the shoe collar—water will enter the shoe it overtops the ankle opening.

Sizing Recommendations

• Vessi Pacific Sneakers tend to run large, and since you cannot tighten them with laces, it’s important to correctly size them from the start.
• The Pacific Sneakers only come in whole sizes, which can create fit challenges for people that wear half-sizes. 
• The stretchy knit material does adapt somewhat to your foot shape over time, but don’t rely on this for major size corrections.
• Consider sizing down from your normal shoe size, especially if you’re in-between sizes.

Vessi Pacific Cleaning and Maintenance

According to the Vessi website, you can hand wash the sneakers rather than machine washing. The recommended process is:

1. Remove loose dirt with a dry, soft-bristled brush
2. Spot treat stains with baking soda and white vinegar applied in circular motions
3. Rinse with cold water and repeat as needed
4. Air dry at room temperature away from direct heat sources

Uses Cases for the Vessi Pacific Sneaker

Best Uses

• Workouts: Cardio, jump roping and weight training.
• Daily walking: Casual walking, running errands.
• Travel: Convenient to slip-on at airports, while still being comfortable for extended travel.

Worst Uses

• High-intensity lateral movement: The ankle fit and removable insole may limit your lateral, side to side movements.
• Long-distance running: Because of the issues above, I don’t consider the Vessi Pacific good for long-distance, endurance running.

How the Vessi Pacific Sneaker Compares with Similar Waterproof Sneakers

Adidas Terrex Swift R3 GTX ($160)

• Advantages More durable construction, better traction for outdoor activities, adjustable lace fit, superior ankle support
• Disadvantages: Heavier (14.4 oz), stiffer feel, more hiking-oriented design

On Cloud 5 Waterproof ($170)

• Advantages: Lighter weight (10.2 oz), excellent cushioning technology, premium materials with 40% recycled content
• Disadvantages: Higher price, unique sole design that catches debris, very limited breathability

Nike Pegasus Trail 5 GTX ($170)

• Advantages: Superior running performance, excellent traction, proven Gore-Tex waterproofing, adjustable fit
• Disadvantages: More expensive, designed primarily for trail running rather than casual wear

Allbirds Tree Runner Mizzles ($115-135)

• Advantages: More breathable, sustainable materials, lighter weight, better price point
• Disadvantages: Only water-resistant (not fully waterproof), less durable in harsh conditions

Warranty

Vessi offers a 1-year warranty if something goes wrong with your shoes based on manufacturing defects.

Final Recommendation

At $155, the Vessi Pacific Sneakers are a bit more expensive than basic water-resistant options but less costly than premium Gore-Tex alternatives.

Highly recommended for:

• Waterproof protection for daily wear.
• Easy slip-on convenience.
• Comfortable shoes for cardio workouts and walking.
• Have narrow to normal-width feet.
• Live in a rainy climate.

Consider Alternatives If You:

• Need precise fit adjustment for athletic activities.
• Have wide feet or require half sizes.
• Want maximum breathability over waterproofing.
• Need shoes primarily for running or technical activities.
• Prefer machine-washable footwear.

Care and Maintenance Tips

To maximize the lifespan of your Vessi Pacific Sneakers:

1. Clean promptly: Address stains quickly before they set.
2. Use proper technique: Stick to the baking soda and vinegar method for spot cleaning.
3. Air dry completely: Never use direct heat, which can damage the waterproof membrane.
4. Rotate wear: Don’t wear them daily to allow complete drying between uses.

Conclusion

The Vessi Pacific Sneaker delivers comfortable, waterproof footwear. While the non-adjustable fit and removable insole may not work for everyone, I found these shoes to great for exercise and daily wear.

Keep in mind that the Pacific Sneaker runs on the larger side, and you should carefully consider if you need to size down.
