Weatherproof Blankets Made From Recycled Plastic

A comfortable, water- and stain-resistant blanket is essential for every successful camping trip, particularly in the fall and winter. Sleeping bags have historically been used to meet this demand.

Rumpl creates waterproof, washable, odor and stain resistant – and even wearable – blankets that are lightweight, warm, and extremely creative. They come in a variety of bright colors and unique designs, making them a stand out among other outdoor and camping gear.

Rumpl’s Puffy Blankets, Jackets, and Ponchos are constructed using the same technical materials as sleeping bags and puffer jackets. Their products are insulated with a synthetic micro fiber developed to give maximum warmth in cold, damp settings, and are a must-have for camping and outdoor activities.

Organic Cotton Shirts

Organic cotton is one of my favorite materials. In addition to being incredibly soft, it is superior to regular cotton because insecticides and pesticides are not used during cultivation. The chemicals in regular cotton can absorb into our skin, even after the clothes are washed.

Organic cotton is also better for farmers and workers because they are not exposed to toxic chemicals. Your favorite cotton shirt should not be hazardous to your health – or anybody else’s health.

We have curated a collection of our favorite organic cotton shirts that are perfect for camping and outdoor adventures. Outerknown’s Blanket Shirt is at the top of our list. In addition to being stylish, they are also sustainable, Fair Trade Certified and made with responsibly sourced, eco-friendly materials.

The Blanket Shirt is woven with 100% organic cotton twill and adorned with corozo buttons made from the nut of the tagua palm. The blanket shirt is super soft, durable and perfect for layering on a chilly day.

Vegan Shoes

Leather has long been a staple material for outdoor enthusiasts because of its comfort and durability. For decades, people have opted for leather hiking boots and sneakers with suede uppers.

However, there are a multitude of cruelty-free, vegan options to fill this need. The vegan shoe company Saola creates shoes, sneakers and boots using 100% recycled, synthetic and organic materials.

Saola’s main goal is to divert plastic from landfills while creating durable, waterproof, and comfortable vegan shoes.  They achieve this goal by utilizing 3-4 plastic bottles to create each pair of sneakers, in addition to repurposing recycled and organic materials.

Saola uses Gold Standard Certified PET recycled water bottles, recycled canvas knit, cork, and BLOOM – a biodegradable rubber substitute made of algae froth.  You have to see it to believe it!

Hoodies Made With Recycled Materials

Hoodies are the backbone of my wardrobe – whatever the occasion or location, I have a hoodie that works. Hoodies are also a vital component of most outdoor activities – from hiking to camping, a warm hoodie is a like a cherished friend when you’re out in the wilderness.

A new trend in hoodies is to make new ones of out recycled materials – everything from plastic bottles to used coffee grinds. It seems that almost anything can be re-processed and spun into fabric. This also helps remove some of the millions of tons of plastic in the ocean.

Patagonia has been a trusted company for outdoor enthusiasts for decades, and is also a leader in creating hoodies out of recycled materials.

Their line of hoodies are super lightweight, water-resistant, and extremely warm because of their proprietary PlumaFill® synthetic insulation—a vegan alternative to down made from recycled polyester. PlumaFill® also stays warm even when wet. Patagonia fabric is certified as bluesign® approved and produced by Fair Trade Certified™ suppliers.
